The Crescendo - Blog Post 1

Alex Peters (Team Lead), Kade Chambers (Programmer), Anthoney Johnston (Level Designer)

I am the programmer of the Group 3, working on the game prototype The Crescendo. My tasks that were assigned for this sprint included setting up our feedback form, contributing to our design treatment, setting up our digital prototype development environment, and implementing our core movement script. I was also in charge of setting up our Unity Collaboration group.

I was able to complete all of my assigned tasks, though I need to implement the movement script into our prototype. I developed the script using the new Unity Input add-on, and so it was done outside of the base project before the digital sprint began so that I could mess with different action and understand the way the new components worked.

Our movement system in based on the staves in a music sheet, and our player will utilize these to move up and down while dodging obstacles and hitting speed boosts to flow throughout the level to the rythm. During the paper playtest, players showed some interest in our movement system. Using our feedback form, we were able to gather feedback on this core movement concept and improve on the idea.

Moving forward to the next sprint, I plan on honing in on how the movement mechanic interacts with the game itself, by implementing collisions, forward movement with speed multipliers, as well as making these components easily editable by our level designer for ease of use while developing the first prototype level in which to test our kinesthetics.

I will have a more central role in the development cycle as the digital prototype becomes the focus of the sprint. Programming will become important as we need to add interactivity into our game to make the game more engaging and fun.
